Brown Thomas is Ireland’s most beautiful lifestyle store offering an unparalleled retail experience.
Housing the world’s most exclusive designer collections, in awe inspiring environments, Brown Thomas is proud of its heritage, and of its people, placing the best service at the heart of the Brown Thomas experience.

Brown Thomas has had its foothold in Irish Style since its inception in 1849. Opened by haberdashers and general drapers Hugh Brown and James Thomas on Grafton Street, the business flourished through generations and through different owners.

1971
In 1971 and under threat of closure, Galen & Hillary Weston bought Brown Thomas and began the transformation into the prestigious department store that it is today.

1995
Brown Thomas became even more significant when it merged with, and developed new premises on the site of Switzers, another long established Grafton Street Department store in 1995. Since then, other Brown Thomas group stores in Cork (formerly Cashs), Limerick (formerly Todds) & Galway (formerly Moons) have undergone major expansion and refurbishment with rebranding on all stores complete in 2000.

1998
1998 saw the introduction of BT2, the ultimate fashion & lifestyle destination store for the hip 18-34 year old male & female with stores on Grafton Street and more recently in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre & the Dundrum Town Centre. BT Kids is also housed in BT2 Grafton Street.

2005
Like the fashion so beautifully displayed, the “Brown Thomas look” continues to evolve. In 2005 alone, Brown Thomas has opened a Vera Wang bridal salon, the new Shoe Rooms & the new Designer Rooms in the Dublin store. We have also expanded our Louis Vuitton offer with the Chanel & Hermes boutiques now celebrating their first anniversary with us. Brown Thomas Limerick recently unveiled its exciting new menswear department on the lower ground floor with Brown Thomas Galway heralding the arrival of the new season with a second floor of fashion.

Brown Thomas has long been established as a landmark destination for both Irish & international fashionistas – it proudly takes its place on the international stage of luxury retailing.
